Natalie looked down at the ring, then up into my eyes.
There were no tears of sorrow this time. Only a quiet, radiant smile that reached all the way to her hazel eyes.
“You already proved it when you walked into that hospital, Lucas,” she whispered, stepping into my arms and resting her head against my chest. “Welcome home.”
From the backyard, the sound of childish laughter echoed through the open window as Leo and Lily chased each other through the sprinkler, shouting my name.
