CHAPTER 7 — The Billionaire Who Did Not Raise His Voice

Daniel did not shout.
That was what made him dangerous.
He turned to Vanessa calmly.
“Did you take her food?” he asked.
Vanessa exhaled softly, like she was dealing with something trivial.
“Daniel, it was leftovers. She shouldn’t be eating constantly outside structured meal times. It’s not healthy—”
“Answer the question.”
A pause.
“Yes,” Vanessa said finally, with a faint shrug. “I did.”
Maria flinched.
Sophia didn’t understand the weight of it.
But she understood tone.
Daniel nodded slowly.
Then looked at the trash bin.
The container was still inside.
Maria saw his jaw tighten.
“You threw away food meant for a child in my house,” he said.
Vanessa lifted her chin.
“She’s not—”
Daniel turned sharply.
“She is a guest in this house because I allowed it,” he said.
A pause.
“And you do not override me.”
Vanessa blinked.
“You’re defending the maid’s daughter over me?”
That sentence hung in the air too long.
Maria felt something shift inside her chest.
Daniel turned his head slightly.
“No,” he said.
“I’m correcting someone who forgot where she is.”
Silence.
Vanessa’s expression hardened.
“You’re humiliating me.”
Daniel looked at her for a long moment.
May you like
Then said quietly:
“No. You did that yourself.”
