Chapter 2: The Present – The Broken Corridor

We return to the moment in the video. Javier was holding the baby, surrounded by his family, smiling for what would be his first official photo. Suddenly, the hurried footsteps of the head nurse echoed down the hallway.
— Nurse: Please stop! That baby isn't yours! — Javier: (Pale face, smile gone) What? What are you saying? — Nurse: (Breathing heavily, clutching her chest) There was… a mistake in the records.
Before Javier or Elena could process the words, a woman in a red blouse burst onto the scene. It was Sofia. Her eyes were bloodshot, filled with a primal, uncontrollable panic.
— Sofia: (Shouting with a broken voice) That's my son!
The silence in the hallway was profound, broken only by the sudden cry of one of the children. Javier instinctively clutched the baby to his chest, feeling as if the world were spinning.

— Elena: (Crying) No, it must be a mistake! He's ours, I've breastfed him, I've held him these past two nights… — Hospital Director: (Arriving on the scene) Please remain calm. We will conduct emergency DNA testing immediately. We will take full responsibility, but the babies must be returned to the neonatal unit under medical supervision.
The handover was the most heartbreaking moment of their lives. Javier had to place the child he already loved into the doctor's arms, while he watched as Sofía had the child she believed was hers taken away.
