Chapter 9 - The Final Echo

The labor started gently, just as the first golden rays of dawn began stretching across the eastern hills of the estate.
By the time Dr. Vance and a specialized medical team arrived at the mansion's private medical suite, my father was pacing the polished hardwood floor of the waiting lounge like an expectant father himself, muttering executive instructions to invisible assistants while Eleanor gently rubbed his shoulder to calm his nerves.
"Richard, sit down before you drill a hole straight through the floorboards," Eleanor scolded affectionately with a warm chuckle.
"I can't sit down, Eleanor! My daughter is in there having my granddaughter!" my father retorted, though a nervous, excited smile broke through his stern facade.
Inside the medical suite, the atmosphere was serene, focused, and filled with a quiet, supportive power. Dr. Vance guided me through every contraction with calm expertise. I wasn't alone, I wasn't afraid, and I wasn't trapped in the suffocating shadow of abuse anymore. I was surrounded by top-tier medical care, absolute luxury, and the unwavering emotional armor of my family.
"One more big push, Becca! You're doing incredible!" Dr. Vance encouraged warmly.
With a final surge of strength, gripping Eleanor's hand in one palm while holding my father's engraved gold locket in the other, I pushed through the pain.
A sharp, lusty cry echoed through the bright room.
"She's here!" Dr. Vance announced with a triumphant smile, lifting a squirming, healthy baby girl wrapped in a soft white blanket and placing her gently onto my chest.
I looked down at the tiny, perfect face, the soft tuft of dark hair, and the tiny fingers curled into tight fists. Tears of pure, unadulterated joy spilled over my cheeks, washing away any lingering ghost of the past.
"Welcome to the world, little one," I whispered, kissing her forehead. "You are so safe here. Nobody will ever hurt you."
Ten minutes later, my father and Eleanor were ushered into the room. The moment my father caught sight of his newest granddaughter, his tough executive exterior completely melted away. He walked over to the bed, his hands trembling slightly as he reached down to gently stroke the baby's tiny cheek.
"She's... she's magnificent, Becca," my father choked out, a thick tear carving a clean path through his silver beard. He looked up at me, his eyes shining with profound pride. "What's her name?"
I looked down at the baby, then out the window toward the bright, sun-drenched gardens where the spring flowers were blooming brighter than ever.
"Victoria," I said softly, a brilliant, confident smile lighting up my face. "Her name is Victoria."
My father let out a wet, joyful laugh, nodding vigorously. "Victoria Lawson. A true survivor. A true queen."

As Eleanor gently handed Emma onto the bed so she could peek at her new baby sister with wide, curious eyes, I leaned back against the plush pillows. I touched my front tooth, smooth and perfect, and felt a profound sense of closure.
The nightmare was over. The monster was gone. And our new legacy had finally begun.
