PART 4 — The Fall of Control

By evening, everything had shifted.
Doctors confirmed what Adrian already knew.
Harold wasn’t dying.
He was being kept that way.
Sedated.
Weakened.
Controlled.
Celeste stood in the center of the living room as if the world hadn’t changed.
“This is absurd,” she said. “You’re overreacting.”
Adrian handed Graham a folder.
Inside: account freezes, medical reviews, legal notices.
“You isolated him,” Adrian said. “You blocked treatment. You controlled access.”
“I protected him.”
“You controlled him.”
Her composure cracked.
“You have no idea what it takes to maintain this family!”
“No,” Adrian said quietly. “But I know what it doesn’t take.”
Silence.
“It doesn’t take cruelty.”
Security arrived.
Not loud. Not dramatic.
But final.
Celeste’s voice rose for the first time.
“You can’t do this to me.”
May you like
Adrian met her eyes.
“I already did.”
