Chapter 11 - The Flooded Hangar.

The heavy hydraulic doors of the subterranean hangar groaned under the immense pressure of the rising seawater.
Frigid ocean water poured in through ruptured seams along the lower concrete foundation, swirling around their combat boots in a violent, icy current.
Four elite mercenaries clad in midnight-black tactical gear stood shoulder-to-shoulder across the open hangar floor.
Their weapons were raised instantly, locked onto the doorway with lethal, unblinking focus.
"Contact! Multiple targets at twelve o'clock!" the commander bellowed over the deafening roar of the idling helicopter.
Without a moment of hesitation, the mercenaries unleashed a ferocious wall of automatic gunfire.
Tracer rounds hissed through the smoke-filled air, chewing viciously into the concrete pillars surrounding the entrance.
Shrapnel and pulverized stone exploded outward in a blinding storm of debris.
The commander shoved Will violently behind a thick concrete support beam to keep their primary asset alive.
"Return fire! Cover the flanks!" the commander ordered, snapping his rifle to his shoulder.
The strike team poured out of the corridor in a synchronized wave of tactical aggression.
Automatic weapons fire shattered the heavy silence of the hangar, echoing like thunderous artillery.
The bright muzzle flashes painted the rising water in flickering, strobe-like flashes of orange and red.
One of the mercenaries stumbled backward, caught squarely in the chest by a concentrated burst of tactical fire.
He hit the slick, water-covered concrete with a heavy splash, his weapon sliding away into the dark current.
The remaining three operatives adjusted their formation instantly, laying down suppressive fire to pin the commander's team down.
"We can't stay here! The water is rising too fast!" the woman in the silver gown yelled over the chaos.
She peered around the edge of the concrete pillar, her eyes calculating the precise trajectory across the open floor.
Her finger rested firmly on the trigger of her suppressed pistol, waiting for the briefest window of opportunity.
"On my mark, we push the advantage!" the commander shouted back, reloading his rifle with lightning speed.
He popped out from cover, firing three rapid, calculated shots that forced the enemy vanguard to duck behind a steel fueling station.
Seizing the micro-second distraction, the woman broke cover and sprinted across the slick, hazard-filled floor.
She slid across the wet concrete, coming to a halt behind the landing gear of the idling transport helicopter.
From her new vantage point, she had a clear, unobstructed line of sight on the two closest enemy combatants.
She squeezed the trigger twice in rapid succession, hitting both targets with absolute, deadly precision.
The two mercenaries collapsed instantly, neutralizing the primary threat blocking access to the aircraft cockpit.
"Clear on the left flank!" she shouted loudly into her comms headset.
The commander pushed forward immediately, dragging a terrified and trembling Will along with him.
Will stumbled over a piece of twisted metal, gasping for air as the cold water soaked through his ruined designer suit.
"Move, you worthless traitor!" the commander snarled, hauling Will to his feet with brutal strength.
The final remaining mercenary emerged from behind the fueling station, roaring in fury as he raised his heavy assault rifle.
Before the mercenary could pull the trigger, a concentrated volley of rifle fire from the strike team tore through his armor.
The last attacker spun violently before crashing face-first into the rapidly deepening water.
"Sector secure! All hostiles neutralized!" the lead strike specialist confirmed, panting heavily.
"Get to the chopper, now!" the commander commanded, shoving Will toward the open side hatch of the transport aircraft.
Will scrambled desperately into the cabin, his hands cuffed tightly behind his back as he fell hard onto the metal floor.
The woman in silver climbed up right behind him, securing her position on the internal jump seat.
The commander and the remaining strike team members piled in swiftly, pulling the heavy side hatch closed with a deafening slam.
"We've got a catastrophic structural breach! The entire lower level is flooding!" the pilot yelled frantically over the intercom.
"Take off immediately! Do not wait for clearance!" the commander ordered, locking his harness into place.
The twin turbine engines of the transport helicopter whined aggressively, spooling up to maximum thrust.
The aircraft lifted off the landing platform just as a massive wave of seawater crashed across the hangar floor.
Rotary blades whipped up a fierce gale of wind and water inside the cavernous space as the chopper surged upward.
Through the reinforced cockpit windows, they watched the island fortress buckle violently under the pressure of the ocean.
Concrete walls imploded inward, swallowing the subterranean levels in a dark, churning vortex of water and debris.
The entire complex began to sink rapidly beneath the turbulent surface of the stormy sea.
Within moments, the proud underground sanctuary was reduced to nothing more than a frothing graveyard of white foam and floating wreckage.
Inside the cabin, the oppressive red emergency lights cast long, grim shadows across the faces of the survivors.
Will lay curled up on the metal floor, shivering violently as freezing water dripped from his soaked clothing.
The commander stood over him, looking down with an expression of pure, unadulterated contempt.
"Your little empire is sitting at the bottom of the ocean, Will," the commander whispered coldly.
Will lifted his head slowly, his eyes bloodshot and filled with a mixture of terror and desperate rage.
"You think this is the end?" Will choked out, a bitter, hysterical laugh escaping his lips.
"The buyers... they will never stop hunting you," Will warned, his voice cracking with exhaustion.
The woman in silver leaned forward, resting her elbows on her knees as she stared down at the architect of her ruin.

"Let them come," she replied softly, her voice carrying the chilling finality of a death sentence.
"We are just getting started," she added, a dark, dangerous smile crossing her lips.
