Part 1 — The Secret No One Could Hide
The ballroom remained frozen.
Crystal glasses hovered halfway to lips.
No one dared breathe.
The toddler buried his face against the maid's shoulder, clinging to her apron with both tiny hands.
"I found you, Mommy."
The maid—Emily—closed her eyes as tears rolled silently down her cheeks. For three years she had dreamed of hearing that word again.
The elegant woman in white, Victoria Ashcroft, slowly lowered her champagne glass.
"Take the child away," she ordered coldly.
Two security guards stepped forward.
Before they could touch him, the little boy screamed.
"No! She's my mommy! Don't take my mommy!"
His cries echoed through the ballroom.
Emily wrapped both arms around him.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry..."
Victoria's smile disappeared.
"You signed the agreement. The child belongs to my family."
Emily looked up.
"I signed because you told me he had died."
A wave of shocked whispers spread across the guests.
"What?"
Victoria's face stiffened.
Emily continued through tears.
"You paid the hospital to tell me my baby didn't survive."
Silence.
Every eye turned toward Victoria.
Then an elderly man slowly rose from the head table.
