Lucas entered confidently, expecting to challenge the Board.
Instead, he found my name displayed on the chairman's seat.
He stopped walking.
"You planned this."
I looked at him calmly.
"No."

The independent audit began.
One report followed another.
Unauthorized executive spending.
Conflicts of interest.
Contracts awarded without competitive review.
Corporate resources used for personal expenses.
Even Richard lowered his eyes as the evidence accumulated.
The lead auditor closed his report.

The room remained silent.
Lucas looked around desperately.
No one defended him.
Not even the directors he had personally appointed.
One elderly board member finally spoke.
"We trusted your judgment."
He sighed heavily.
"You rewarded loyalty with arrogance."
When the vote was called, the outcome wasn't even close.
The motion to permanently remove Lucas and Richard from executive leadership passed overwhelmingly.
Sophie quietly slipped out through a side exit before the meeting ended.
She had entered believing she would become the wife of a powerful CEO.
She left realizing there was no empire left to inherit.
