Chapter 3 — A House Full of Secrets

Three days later...
Sophie's small apartment was empty.
Not because she had disappeared.
Because Dominic had offered her a job she couldn't refuse.
Not money.
Purpose.
"Just help me keep him alive."
Those had been his exact words.
Inside Moretti Manor, Sophie quickly realized why every nanny had quit.
The mansion wasn't a home.
It was a fortress.
Security cameras.
Locked doors.
Armed guards.
No laughter.
No family photos.
Only silence.
And Nico hated it.
Every time a guard shouted into his radio...
The baby cried.
Every slammed door...
More crying.
Every argument...
Another sleepless night.
One afternoon Sophie noticed something strange.
Whenever Dominic entered the nursery alone, Nico stopped crying immediately.
Not because Dominic knew what to do.
Because the baby recognized his father's heartbeat.
"You should hold him more."
Dominic shook his head.
"I'm dangerous."
"No."
"You've convinced yourself you are."
She placed Nico into Dominic's arms before he could refuse.
His hands trembled.
The baby's eyes opened.
Everyone held their breath.
Then...
Nico curled against Dominic's chest and quietly fell asleep.
One by one, the guards looked away.
None of them wanted their boss to see the tears gathering in his eyes.
But someone else was watching.
From the hallway.
Dominic's cousin, Marco.
The man who had secretly been running the criminal empire while Dominic buried himself in grief.
Marco smiled.
