Two months later, I sat on the porch of my new home with Ivy asleep against my chest.
It wasn't as large as the mansion.
It didn't need to be.
Every corner felt peaceful.
Every room felt safe.
Exactly what I wanted for my daughter.
Jennifer joined me after finalizing the divorce settlement.

I watched Ivy smile in her sleep.
"No."
"Not even a little?"

"I never wanted a mansion."

Months later, Jennifer forwarded me an article about Brent.
He had accepted a lower-paying job in another city.

I simply closed the email.

As evening settled over the porch, I kissed Ivy's forehead.
