Chapter 6 - The Ghost Network

I walked into the living room where Vance was setting up a secure laptop.

"We have a leak," I said bluntly. "Chief of Staff Aris is on their payroll. He just tried to get me to deliver Leo to a place called Crestview Manor. It matches Leo’s description of The Farm."

Vance swore violently. "Crestview is owned by a shell company traced back to an offshore account in the Caymans. If Aris is tipping them off, they know we're onto Crestview. They're going to burn it down and move the kids."

"We can't wait for a federal warrant, Sarah. By the time a judge signs off, they'll have scrubbed the place clean."

Vance looked at me, a dangerous glint in her eye. "I'm a cop, Doc. I can't just kick the door down without a warrant."

"But I'm not a cop," I said, grabbing my car keys. "I'm a doctor. And those are my patients."

Vance stared at me for a long moment, then slammed her laptop shut. "If we do this, we're off the grid. If we get caught, we go to federal prison. If we fail, we die."

"I took an oath to do no harm," I replied, looking at Leo, who was asleep on the couch. "Letting them take those kids is the greatest harm I can imagine."

We left Leo with two trusted FBI agents who Vance swore on her life were clean. We loaded the trunk of my SUV with Vance’s tactical gear. I grabbed my medical jump bag. We were going to Crestview Manor, and we were going to tear the ghost network apart.
