Chapter 12 - The Attempted Abduction

The attack came at 6:40 the following morning.

James was loading Noah’s stroller into the car when a delivery van stopped beside the house.

A man in a brown uniform stepped onto the sidewalk carrying a box.

James noticed three things immediately.

The uniform had no company logo.

The box had no label.

And the man kept one hand inside his jacket.

“Emily, get inside,” James ordered.

The man dropped the box and ran toward Noah.

James intercepted him before he reached the porch.

They crashed against the car.

A second man emerged from the van.

Emily grabbed Noah and locked the front door while calling police.

Outside, James fought with the first attacker.

The second pulled a weapon.

Before he could raise it, Detective Torres’s unmarked car struck the side of the van and blocked his escape.

Officers arrested both men.

Victor was not among them.

One attacker refused to speak.

The other broke after four hours of questioning.

Victor had paid them to take Noah to an abandoned farmhouse near the Wisconsin border.

Police raided the location that evening.

They found diapers, formula and forged documents for a child named Noah Williams.

Victor had already left.

But on the farmhouse table was a map.

A red circle marked Colonel Bennett’s military base.

Beside it was tomorrow’s date.

Victor was no longer hiding.

He was preparing to confront James directly.
