Chapter 22 - THE OFFER FROM RICHARD
Richard’s final plea negotiation lasted six hours.
He admitted using my identity, biometric access, forged signature pages, and medical proxy.
He admitted participating in Alpha and the illegal shipments.
He admitted arranging the dinner to pressure me.
He denied intending serious physical harm or my involuntary transfer.
The emails contradicted the second denial.
Dana refused to describe him as a minor participant.
The agreement required guilty pleas to conspiracy, export fraud, identity crimes, medical coercion, obstruction, and domestic-violence-related coercive conduct.
He would testify against Victoria, Owen, Ross, and others.
His recommendation could be reduced for truthful cooperation but would include prison.
Richard signed.
Then he asked to speak to me with Maya present.
“I approached you because of Marcus,” he said.
The words still hurt despite everything I knew.
“When did I become more than access?”
“The first month.”
“Yet you kept using me.”
“I thought I could separate the marriage from the company.”
“You separated your feelings from your choices.”
He looked at Grace’s photograph on my phone.
“Will you tell her I loved her?”
“When she is old enough, I will tell her what the evidence shows and what you choose to do from here.”
“I never wanted her harmed.”
“You endangered the equipment that monitored her before birth.”
His face collapsed.
That consequence had remained abstract to him until Grace existed in a photograph.
Richard gave me the divorce settlement without conditions.
Our home would be surrendered to the court for financial tracing. My inherited funds would be restored from his legitimate assets where possible. He waived decision-making rights during criminal proceedings and accepted court-supervised future contact based on Grace’s safety.
I signed nothing that day.
Maya reviewed every page later.
Richard also provided information about Owen’s convoy attack.
Owen would use a false hazardous-material spill to divert traffic.
A cloned federal transport would enter the secure lane.
Ross’s men would disable the real vehicle without firing unless guards resisted.
The goal was the evidence, not Dad.
Owen separately planned to kill Marcus at the protected residence during the diversion.
He believed agents would focus on the convoy.
Dana altered both operations.
The convoy carried duplicate evidence containers.
The master drives moved by another method.
Dad’s residence appeared occupied but was empty.
Agents placed tracking devices inside the decoy transport.
The operation began before dawn.
A tanker truck stopped across the highway and released harmless theatrical smoke.
Emergency alerts appeared on police terminals.
A black federal-style vehicle entered the closed lane.
Agents allowed it to approach the decoy.
At the same time, two men crossed the fence behind Dad’s residence.
One carried a suppressed rifle.
Both were arrested before reaching the building.
The convoy vehicle accelerated when officers announced themselves.
A pursuit began through the freight district.
The tracking signal led directly toward Pier Nine.
