Chapter 8 - The Fall of the EmpireāYouāre bluffing!ā Marcus growled, his cool exterior finally cracking. He gestured to his armed guards. āSecure her! Get the scan by force!ā

Before the guards could raise their weapons, headlights suddenly pierced through the heavy fog surrounding the docks. Six black SUVs roared onto the pier, blocking all escape routes. Dozens of heavily armed federal law enforcement officers poured out, laser sights training directly on Marcus and his men.
āFederal agents! Drop your weapons! Hands where we can see them!ā a voice boomed over a loudspeaker.
Marcusās guards immediately dropped their weapons and raised their hands in the air, realizing they were completely surrounded. Victoria collapsed to her knees, crying uncontrollably as the reality of her total ruin set in.
Julian stepped between Charlotte and Marcus, his eyes fixed on his uncle. āItās over, Marcus. The moment you used that override code in the hotel yesterday, the automated system notified the authorities. Charlotte didnāt just set a trap tonightāshe let you lead us right to your location.ā
Marcus stood frozen, looking at Charlotte with a mix of shock and bitter realization. āShe planned this... from the moment she walked into the lobby.ā
āI let Victoria drag me across that floor,ā Charlotte said coldly, stepping closer to Marcus as the federal agents moved in to handcuff him. āI let everyone think I was weak, helpless, and beaten. Because when arrogant people think theyāve won, they become sloppy. You were so busy watching me fall that you never noticed the net closing around you.ā
As the agents led Marcus Vance away in chains, he turned back to look at Charlotte one last time. āYou are truly Eleanorās daughter,ā he whispered.
Charlotte stood on the edge of the pier, watching the police lights fade into the night fog. Julian walked up beside her, placing a warm coat over her shoulders.

āItās really over,ā Julian said softly. āThe board is clean, the criminals are behind bars, and your familyās legacy is secure.ā
Charlotte looked out over the dark water of the harbor, feeling a profound sense of peace for the first time in months. āNo, Julian. Itās not over. Itās just beginning.ā
