Chapter 8 - The Declaration of the Heart

As the seasons shifted into a warm, sun-kissed summer, the estate hummed with life, laughter, and the quiet contentment of a true family. Caleb and Olivia had become inseparable partners in parenting, business management, and everyday life, though the unspoken depth of their feelings for one another hung softly in the air like a sweet melody waiting for its final refrain.

One Saturday evening, George announced he was visiting an old college friend for the weekend, leaving Caleb, Olivia, and the triplets alone in the sprawling estate. The house was quiet after the babies were put down to sleep, the soft glow of porch lanterns casting golden reflections across the wooden deck.

Caleb found Olivia leaning against the porch railing, looking out over the blooming rose gardens bathed in moonlight. He walked up beside her, holding two glasses of chilled sparkling cider.

“A penny for your thoughts,” Caleb said gently, handing her a glass.

Olivia smiled, taking a small sip. “I was just thinking about how much my life has changed in less than a year. If someone had told me on that rainy Tuesday when we met that I’d be living here, looking at this garden, with three healthy babies and... and you... I would have laughed.”

“Life has a funny way of course-correcting when we least expect it,” Caleb replied, turning to face her fully. He set his glass down on the small table and looked into her eyes with an intensity that made her breath hitch. “Olivia, from the moment I saw you on that park bench, protecting those children with everything you had, my entire world turned upside down. I thought I was the one who was going to help you. But the truth is, you saved me.”

Olivia’s heart hammered against her ribs. She looked up at him, reading the profound sincerity shining in his eyes.

“You brought warmth, purpose, and real love into my life,” Caleb continued, taking her hands in his. “I don't just want to be your business partner, or the owner of this house, or a co-parent. I want to spend the rest of my life walking beside you—as your husband, if you’ll have me.”

Tears sprang to Olivia’s eyes, but this time they were born of overwhelming happiness. She didn't hesitate. She threw her arms around his neck and whispered fiercely into his ear, “Yes. Yes, Caleb, a thousand times yes.”
