PART 3 — The Mother Behind Everything

The hospital room fell into complete silence.

Eleanor slowly lowered the bank statement, but her expression remained cold.

"This proves nothing," she said confidently. "Anyone can fabricate financial records."

Detective Hayes didn't argue.

Instead, he reached into his briefcase one last time.

"I was hoping you'd say that."

He placed a small flash drive on the table.

Ryan's heart nearly stopped.

"No..."

Hayes looked directly at him.

"This came from your family's private security system."

Ryan's face turned ghostly white.

"The footage was deleted three years ago," he whispered.

"It was."

"But someone kept a copy."

The detective handed the drive to a hospital technician.

Moments later, the television mounted on the wall flickered to life.

Security footage filled the screen.

The date appeared.

Six months before Clara's surgery.

The video showed Clara leaving the mansion alone.

Minutes later...

Ryan walked into the underground garage.

He looked around to make sure no one was watching.

Then he opened Clara's SUV.

The room became so quiet that everyone could hear Clara's trembling breath.

Ryan reached beneath the vehicle.

Seconds later, Eleanor entered the garage.

She handed him a toolbox.

The two exchanged a few words before Ryan disappeared beneath the car again.

The footage ended.

Nobody spoke.

Clara felt the blood drain from her face.

She turned toward her husband.

"You knew..."

Her voice cracked.

"You knew someone had tampered with my car."

Ryan couldn't meet her eyes.

"I..."

"I never wanted you to die."

Clara stared at him in disbelief.

"You just wanted me to be afraid."

Ryan closed his eyes.

"My mother said it would only scare you."

"She promised nobody would get hurt."

Clara laughed bitterly through her tears.

"I almost died."

"And you still chose her."

Before Ryan could answer, Detective Hayes opened another folder.

"I'm afraid we're not finished."

He slid a stack of medical reports across the bed.

"The hospital reviewed every one of Mrs. Lancaster's previous admissions."

A doctor standing nearby began reading.

His expression darkened.

"These prescriptions..."

"They were altered."

Hayes nodded.

"Someone repeatedly changed Clara's medications, delaying her recovery and making her appear mentally unstable."

Clara looked stunned.

"That's why I was always so exhausted..."

The detective nodded again.

"Exactly."

Ryan immediately pointed at his mother.

"I didn't know about this!"

For the first time, Eleanor looked genuinely nervous.

"Ryan..."

"Stop talking."

But it was too late.

Hayes turned another page.

"The altered prescriptions were authorized using a forged electronic signature."

He paused.

"The login came from Eleanor Lancaster's personal account."

The room erupted in disbelief.

Ryan slowly stepped away from his mother.

"You..."

"You drugged Clara?"

Eleanor's icy composure finally cracked.

"I did what was necessary to protect this family!"

"You were ruining everything!"

Clara's hands shook with anger.

"I loved your son."

"I gave up my career."

"I gave up my family."

"And you tried to destroy me."

Eleanor sneered.

"You were never worthy of the Lancaster name."

Before anyone could respond, two uniformed officers entered the room.

Detective Hayes looked at Eleanor one last time.

"Eleanor Lancaster..."

"You're under arrest for conspiracy, attempted murder, medical fraud, and obstruction of justice."

As one officer stepped forward with handcuffs, Eleanor suddenly smiled.

It wasn't the smile of a defeated woman.

It was the smile of someone who still had one final secret.

She looked directly at Clara and whispered,

"If you think Ryan has told you everything... you're even more foolish than I thought."

Ryan froze.

Clara slowly turned toward her husband.

The terror in his eyes told her one thing.

There was still a truth he had never confessed.
