PART 4 — The Secret Ryan Buried

Ryan couldn't breathe.
His mother's final words echoed through the hospital room.
"If you think Ryan has told you everything..."
Clara slowly turned toward him.
The fear in his eyes was all the answer she needed.
"There is something else..." she whispered.
Ryan lowered his head.
"I never wanted you to find out like this."
Detective Hayes folded his arms.
"Then tell her now."
"For once in your life... tell the truth."
Ryan closed his eyes.
Twenty years of lies finally caught up with him.
"It didn't start with you, Clara."
"It started with my father."
The room fell silent.
"My father never died of a heart attack."
Clara frowned.
"What?"
Ryan's voice trembled.
"He found out my mother had been stealing millions from the family foundation."
"He wanted to report her."
"But the next morning..."
"He was dead."
Everyone stared at him.
"I was eighteen."
"I saw everything."
"You saw what?"
Ryan swallowed hard.
"I saw my mother switch his medication."
"I watched him collapse."
"I watched him die."
Clara covered her mouth.
"You knew?"
Ryan nodded through tears.
"I knew."
"And I said nothing."
"Why?"
"Because she threatened me."
Hayes quietly asked,
"What did she promise you?"
Ryan laughed bitterly.
"The company."
"The inheritance."
"The Lancaster empire."
"And if I stayed silent..."
"Everything would belong to me."
Clara looked at the man she once loved.
"So you sold your father..."
"And then you sold me."
Ryan couldn't deny it.
"I kept telling myself it would be the last lie."
"But every lie created another."
Detective Hayes slowly opened the final section of the case file.
"Your housekeeper disagreed."
Ryan looked up.
"...Margaret?"
Hayes nodded.
"For nineteen years, she secretly documented everything."
"Every payment."
"Every threat."
"Every forged document."
"Every camera recording."
Clara remembered the elderly housekeeper.
The gentle woman who always whispered,
"Be careful."
Before she could ask why...
Margaret had suddenly disappeared.
Ryan's voice cracked.
"My mother said she retired."
Hayes looked him in the eye.
"She didn't."
"She spent her final months dying of cancer."
"But before she died..."
"She mailed every piece of evidence to us."
He carefully removed a small envelope.
"This was the last thing she ever sent."
Inside...
A memory card.
Hayes inserted it into the television.
A hidden camera recording appeared.
The timestamp showed...
The night Clara nearly died.
The video showed Clara collapsing on the staircase inside the mansion after suddenly becoming dizzy.
Instead of calling an ambulance...
Eleanor calmly watched from the hallway.
Ryan rushed downstairs.
He knelt beside Clara.
"Call 911!"
he shouted.
But Eleanor grabbed his arm.
"No."
"Leave her."
"If she dies..."
"Everything stays in this family."
Ryan hesitated.
For five unbearable seconds...
He did nothing.
Clara lay unconscious at his feet.
Then Ryan finally pulled out his phone.
Eleanor slapped it from his hand.
The two struggled.
The screen went black.
The recording ended.
The room was frozen in horror.
Clara's tears streamed silently down her face.
"So..."
"You actually considered letting me die."
Ryan collapsed to his knees.
"I was weak."
"I was a coward."
"But I called for help."
"Too late," Clara whispered.
"You had five seconds to choose."
"And in those five seconds..."
"I learned exactly how much my life meant to you."
Detective Hayes quietly closed the file.
"I believe that's everything."
But before anyone could move...
A young officer rushed into the room.
"Detective!"
Hayes turned.
"What is it?"
The officer's face was pale.
"Eleanor escaped."
"She overpowered one of the deputies in the hallway."
"And she stole a car."
Hayes' expression hardened.
"Put out an immediate statewide alert."
As alarms echoed through the hospital corridors, Eleanor gripped the steering wheel with one hand and a loaded pistol with the other.

Looking into the rearview mirror, she whispered with a chilling smile,
"If I can't protect my family's secrets... I'll make sure Clara dies before she can tell the world."
