Chapter 3 - The Secret Folder and the Betrayal Revealed

The video timestamp flickered in the corner of the screen: exactly seven days before we exchanged vows at the altar.
In the recording, Dwight’s arms were wrapped tightly around Ashley, the woman who had stood beside me while I held my bridal bouquet.
“Just stick to the plan a little longer,” Dwight whispered into Ashley’s hair, his voice dripping with affection. “Once we get her savings and the apartment down payment fully transferred into my account, I’ll ditch Elizabeth. We’ll use her money to buy our dream house, and she won’t even see it coming. She thinks she’s marrying a partner, but she’s just funding our future.”
Ashley giggled, kissing his cheek. “Are you sure she won’t figure it out? Her family thinks she’s making a great match.”
“She’s too trusting,” Dwight laughed darkly. “And once my family wears her down with the housework, she’ll either snap and leave voluntarily, or we’ll push her out with nothing. Either way, the money stays with us.”
Sitting alone in the quiet apartment, the screen glowed against my face, illuminating the tears streaming down my cheeks—not from sadness, but from pure, unadulterated fury.
Every sweet word Dwight had ever spoken to me, every promise of a shared future, every smile during our courtship—it was all a meticulously calculated scam. They had targeted me for my savings, using his family’s toxic household dynamics as a psychological weapon to break my spirit and force me out empty-handed.
I plugged my external hard drive into the laptop and copied the entire “X” folder, along with every chat log, bank statement, and financial record I could find.
The next morning, I met Christopher early at his office. I slammed the laptop onto his desk and played the video for him.
Christopher leaned back in his leather chair, a slow, predatory smile spreading across his face.
“Well, Elizabeth, this changes everything. This isn't just a standard messy divorce anymore. This is premeditated financial fraud, combined with civil conspiracy.”
“Can we freeze his accounts?” I asked, my voice hard as steel.
“Not only can we freeze them, but with this evidence of hidden assets and coordinated deception, we can petition the court to void any joint claim he has on your pre-marital savings,” Christopher explained, tapping his pen against the desk. “And regarding the s:laps from your father-in-law and the assault captured on video—we are adding criminal charges for domestic battery.”
My phone buzzed in my pocket. It was a text message from Dwight.
“Stop being dramatic and come back home. My mom needs help with dinner, and dad is furious. If you don’t show up by tonight, don't expect me to ever talk to you again.”

I looked at Christopher, and we both smiled.
“Let’s reply,” Christopher said softly. “Tell him you’re preparing a special surprise for the whole family.”
