Chapter 1: The Threshold of Deception

The heavy oak door of the luxury hotel suite clicked open,
signaling the abrupt end of an illusion. Mary stood on the
threshold, draped in an exquisite, pristine white wedding
gown that shimmered under the warm corridor lights.
Her blonde hair was elegantly styled, framing a face that radiated
anticipation and the pure joy of a bride about to walk down the aisle.
In her hand, she clutched a silver beaded clutch, her heart fluttering
with the finality of a lifelong commitment. She had come to find her
groom, eager for a quiet moment together before the ceremony altered
their lives forever.
Instead, the tranquil quiet of the suite was shattered by frantic
rustling and heavy, panicked breathing. Mary stepped inside,
her eyes adjusting to the dim interior as the scent of expensive
cologne mixed with something far more sinister. Clothes were
strewn across the plush carpet—a black suit jacket discarded haphazardly,
followed by a tangle of lace and fabric that definitely did not
belong to her trousseau. Her gaze traveled upward, locking onto
a scene that instantly paralyzed her nervous system. There,
standing half-dressed and buttoning his white shirt with trembling
fingers, was her fiancé.
His face drained of all color, eyes wide with sheer terror as
he stared at the woman in the wedding dress. "Mary..." he stammered,
his voice cracking under the weight of immediate exposure. "I can explain..."
The air grew thick and suffocating, choking out any remnants of the dream Mary
had harbored for months. The man she was supposed to trust with her entire
existence looked like a cornered animal caught in the merciless glare of
headlights. Every muscle in Mary's body locked up as the dreadful reality
began to sink in, turning her warm excitement into a cold, hollow void.
On the bed behind him, half-hidden beneath a white duvet, another woman
sat cowering. Her dark hair was disheveled, and she clutched the sheets
tightly to her chest, tears streaming down her face as she shook
uncontrollably. The betrayal was absolute, raw, and completely
undeniable. Mary stood frozen, her mind struggling to process the grotesque
juxtaposition of her wedding gown against the sordid reality unfolding before
her eyes. The silence stretched, heavy and agonizing, broken only by the
ragged breaths of the two people caught in flagrante delicto.
