PART 9: THE FORENSIC REVERSAL

"Victoria Ashford," Detective Miller’s voice boomed through a megaphone. "Stay where you are. You are under arrest for extortion and corporate tampering."

Victoria didn't run.

She looked at Marcus, then at me, her face twisting into an ugly mask of pure rage.

"You think this stops it?" she screamed over the wind. "The Zurich files are already programmed to send automatically to the internal revenue service if I don't check in by sunrise!"

"They won't be sending anywhere, Ms. Ashford," Marcus Bell said, stepping forward with a calm, professional smile.

He turned his tablet toward her, showing a digital printout of a network shutdown command.

"We traced the server you used to program the automated email," Marcus explained. "It wasn't a secure vault in Boston. It was a residential IP address registered to your mother's guesthouse in Charlotte."

I stepped closer to her, looking down at the crimson folder.

"My brother Thomas didn't blackmail your father, Victoria," I said, my voice dropping to a dangerous whisper. "Your father used Thomas’s engineering firm to launder the Wilmington port fees, and when Thomas refused to sign the falsified manifests, your father had his car forced off the road."

Victoria’s jaw dropped, her arrogance evaporating into the freezing sea air.

"You copied his signature onto the Zurich account after his death," I continued, pulling the napkin-wrapped USB drive from my pocket. "The forensic audit completed at 2:00 a.m. today proved the digital ink matches the software your father’s legal team used during the 2024 restructuring."

She took a panicked step backward, her high heels catching on a rusted cable.

The officers immediately closed in, grabbing her arms and forcing her hands behind her back.

The handcuffs clicked shut, a sharp, final sound that cut through the roar of the ocean.
