Chapter 1: The Ruling

The judge ruled that I would leave the marriage with nothing.

No money.

No home.

No support for my unborn child.

Julian, my husband, leaned in close and whispered with a cruel smile:

“Let’s see how you and that baby survive without me.”

I stood up, holding back tears, ready to walk out of the courtroom completely broken.

But I never made it to the door.

The heavy oak doors suddenly burst open.

Four bodyguards entered first.

Then she walked in.

Eleanor Sterling — one of the richest and most powerful women in the country.

She ignored everyone else and walked straight toward me.

Her icy blue eyes — the exact same shade as mine — filled with tears as she gently touched my face.

“My beautiful girl,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “I finally found you.”

Julian laughed nervously.

“Mrs. Sterling, Clara is an orphan!”

Eleanor turned to him with a cold, dangerous smile.

“An orphan?” she repeated. “No. She is my daughter. And you just made the biggest mistake of your life.”

In that moment, everything changed.
