Chapter 10: The Server Room

Dropping into the server room, Jack landed silently behind a rack of blinking mainframes. The room was massive,

bathed in the icy blue light of cooling towers. In the center of the room was a reinforced glass chamber containing

the Genesis core.

He began wiring the C4 to the primary load-bearing pillars, chaining the detonators. But before he could place the

final charge, a slow, methodical clapping echoed across the vast room.

Jack spun around, raising his MP7.

Silas stood in the doorway. The hulking security chief's face was heavily bruised, a massive gash running down his

left cheek from the car crash, but he was grinning. In his grip, held by her jacket collar, was Lily.

"Thought you could hide her, Jack?" Silas rumbled, his voice like grinding stones. "You're getting predictable."

Jack’s blood froze. He had failed. Lily kicked and struggled, but Silas held her effortlessly.

"Drop the weapon," Silas commanded, pressing a heavy revolver against the child's temple. "Or the little girl gets

Slowly, Jack lowered the MP7, kicking it across the polished floor.
