Chapter 14: Escape Velocity

The bunker was tearing itself apart. The self-destruct countdown echoed over the PA system. "T-Minus sixty

seconds."

Jack limped to the blast door, overriding the manual lock to pull Lily out of the core chamber. She leaped into his

arms, trembling violently.

"We have to go," Jack gasped, his vision blurring from blood loss and pain.

They navigated the collapsing corridors, dodging falling debris and panicked mercenaries who were too busy trying

to save themselves to care about an ex-agent and a little girl. They burst through the surface ventilation grate just as

the ground beneath them began to heave.

Jack dragged Lily toward the tree line. A massive shockwave hit them from behind as the geothermal plant

imploded, sending a geyser of flame and concrete high into the stormy sky. They were thrown into the mud, safe

but battered.

Jack rolled onto his back, staring at the rain falling from the night sky. He was alive. The Genesis project was

He looked at Lily. She was staring past him, toward the ridge.
