Epilogue 1: The Prison Visit

Epilogue 1: The Prison Visit

Three months after Juliette's arrest, Caroline received a handwritten letter.

There was no return address.

Only one sentence.

"Please come. I need to tell you the truth before it's too late."

Against everyone's advice, Caroline agreed.

The California Women's Correctional Facility was cold, gray, and silent.

Nothing like the glamorous life Juliette once lived.

The guards escorted Caroline into the visitors' room.

Juliette entered wearing a prison uniform.

She looked years older.

Her expensive hair was gone.

Her confidence had vanished.

For nearly a minute, neither sister spoke.

Finally, Juliette whispered,

"I dreamed about the fire again."

Caroline remained silent.

"I hear you screaming every night."

Juliette's hands shook violently.

"I deserve prison."

"But I still need you to know something."

Caroline looked up.

"It wasn't only me."

Juliette slid a folded piece of paper across the table.

"Our parents' attorneys..."

"They planned everything after the fire."

"I only wanted you scared."

"They turned it into a cover-up."

Caroline slowly unfolded the paper.

Inside...

Were three names.

Three lawyers.

And one powerful businessman who had disappeared after the wedding.

Caroline realized...

The conspiracy had never truly ended.
