Chapter 23 - The Private Meeting

|
Emily did not immediately send the explosive evidence to the authorities. She wanted to look Richard Sterling in the eyes when his arrogant, corrupt world finally crumbled around him.
She instructed her assistant, Clara, to call Richard and invite him to her private executive office under the strict guise of negotiating a "quiet, mutually beneficial settlement" to stop the relentless media war.
Richard arrived promptly at 2:00 PM, practically strutting through the hospital corridors. He clearly believed that his vicious smear campaign had successfully broken Emily’s resolve, forcing her to finally surrender to his immense financial power.
He walked into her spacious office, casually taking a seat on the leather sofa, crossing his legs and resting his arms confidently on the backrest.
"I knew you would eventually come to your senses, Emily," Richard gloated, flashing his trademark, hollow smile. "The media can be incredibly brutal when you don't play along. But I am a reasonable man. I am still willing to give you the fifty million dollars, provided you sign the exclusive Vanguard contracts and issue a very public, very humiliating apology at a press conference tomorrow morning."
Emily remained seated behind her massive mahogany desk, her posture perfectly straight, her hands folded neatly in front of her. She looked at him with an expression of profound, absolute pity.
"I didn't call you here to negotiate, Richard," Emily stated calmly, her voice cold and completely steady.
Richard’s smug smile faltered slightly, his brow furrowing in irritation. "Then why am I here, Emily? I don't have time for your self-righteous lectures."
Emily reached into the top drawer of her desk. She pulled out a thick, heavy black binder containing the printed, undeniable evidence of his massive corporate fraud, the suppressed clinical trials, and his predatory pricing schemes.

Without saying a single word, she tossed the heavy binder across the desk. It landed with a loud, resounding thud, stopping exactly inches away from Richard's hands.
"I called you here," Emily said, leaning forward slightly, her eyes blazing with ten years of hard-won, unshakeable strength, "to give you exactly one chance to surrender before I completely destroy your life."
