Chapter 11 - A Promise Kept

One year later.

The afternoon sun cast a warm, golden glow across the beachfront gazebo of Andrew’s newly renovated estate in Montauk.

The old Hamptons house—tainted by bad memories—had been sold, and 100% of the proceeds were used to establish The Clara & Valerie Foundation for Children's Safety, a non-profit dedicated to providing free legal defense and medical care to abused children across the country.

Andrew walked out onto the wooden deck carrying two large waffle cones of chocolate fudge ice cream.

Valerie was sitting on a porch swing, reading a book, her dog resting peacefully at her feet. She looked up and smiled—a genuine, radiant, joyful smile that lit up her entire face.

"Ice cream on a Thursday, Daddy?" Valerie giggled, setting her book down. "It's not even the weekend!"

Andrew sat down beside her, handing her a cone, wrapping his arm securely around her shoulders.

"Every Thursday from now on is Ice Cream Day, sweetie," Andrew said gently, kissing the top of her head. "I never break my promises."

Valerie leaned her head against her father’s chest, listening to the steady, strong beat of his heart under the bright, open sky.

She was safe. She was loved. And her story was finally her own.
