Chapter 9 - The Handcuffs in High Society

Sophia stood frozen in the center of the room as her world crumbled around her.

"No... no, that's fake!" Sophia screamed, backing away toward the velvet curtains. "That's AI! He manufactured that!"

Special Agent Miller stepped forward from behind Andrew, pulling out a set of heavy steel federal cuffs.

"Sophia Salgado," Agent Miller declared loudly. "Your bail has been officially revoked by order of the Federal District Court. You are under arrest for multi-million-dollar wire fraud, bank fraud, and child endangerment."

"Get away from me!" Sophia shrieked, kicking frantically as the agents grabbed her arms, twisting them behind her back.

The heavy metallic CLICK of the handcuffs echoed across the silent ballroom.

Reporters swarmed the doorway, taking hundreds of photos of the disgraced stepmother being dragged out of the Metropolitan Arts Club in cuffs, her emerald gown dragging along the dirty pavement outside into a waiting police van.

Andrew stood on the steps of the venue, looking down at her calmly.

"You said I was never home, Sophia," Andrew said, his voice echoing in the cool night air. "Now you’ll have twenty years to think about where I am."
