Chapter 10: The Setup

Grant returned to his apartment, the brass key burning a hole in his pocket. Lydia was there, trying to mask her panic with a sickly sweet smile. "How is she?" Lydia asked, her voice dripping with fake concern.
"She's awake. But her memory is foggy," Grant lied smoothly. He casually tossed his jacket onto the couch, making sure the brass key slipped out just enough to be visible from the pocket. "I have to go meet the doctors to discuss her long-term care."
He left the apartment, but he didn't go to the hospital. He parked down the street and waited.
