I hijacked a parked town car outside the gala, slamming my foot onto the accelerator as tires screeched against the asphalt. I drove like a woman possessed, running red lights and cutting through dark alleyways toward the northern hills where Chloe was hidden.

"She's safe in the panic room with your father's security chief," Elena gasped, pressing a cloth to her bleeding shoulder. "We held them off, Audrey. But I caught the mole."
She kicked a man lying bleeding on the floor near the sofa. I walked closer and stared down at the face of the traitor.
It was Deputy Director Vance—Arthur Vance's younger brother, who had been leading the federal task force's legal oversight team.

"You bastard," I whispered, pointing my gun at his forehead. "You were giving them our locations the entire time."
Deputy Director Vance coughed blood, smiling wickedly despite his injuries. "You think... you win, Hayes? Victoria is just... the right arm. You have no idea... who's sitting at the top of the Vanguard..."
