Chapter 33 - Blackwater Pier
Elias insisted there had never been a Blackwater Pier.
Daniel searched property archives and found no location by that name.
Eli drew it from memory.
His picture showed an abandoned ferry terminal, six storage buildings and a lighthouse standing on an artificial island. Beneath the drawing, he had written a row of coordinates.
The coordinates led to Lake Calder, nearly two hundred miles north.
Mara studied Elias while Daniel prepared the vehicles. The man had protected her, risked his life for her and carried private memories no stranger should possess.
But when Mara asked him where they had spent their first anniversary, he answered correctly without hesitation.
When she asked what she had whispered to him that night, he looked frightened.
“I don’t remember every sentence.”
“You used to say you remembered it better than I did.”
“Mara, please.”
She placed the photograph between them.
“What happened at Blackwater Pier?”
Elias lowered his voice.
“I woke up there.”
The room fell silent.
He explained that six months earlier, he had opened his eyes inside an empty medical chamber. His memories felt complete, but he could not remember arriving there.
A woman had been waiting outside.
“What woman?” Celeste asked.
Elias looked at Mara.
“She had your face.”

BLACKWATER IS WAITING FOR ITS ARCHITECT.
