Chapter 35 - Confronting the Patriarch

|

I did not invite Arthur Sterling to a neutral location. I demanded he meet me on my territory.

He arrived at the Grant-Morris Foundation building just after sunset, accompanied by two massive, silent bodyguards. Marcus and his security team met them in the lobby, forcing the bodyguards to remain downstairs while Arthur was escorted up to my private office.

Arthur walked in, his tailored suit immaculate, his face twisted into a mask of pure, condescending fury.

"This had better be a surrender, Amelia," Arthur sneered, refusing to take the seat I offered. "My lawyers are currently tearing your museum injunction to shreds. You are entirely out of your depth."

I sat comfortably behind my desk, my hands folded calmly over the sleek, printed dossier Elena and I had compiled.

"I invited you here as a courtesy, Arthur," I said, my voice eerily calm, projecting the absolute authority my father had taught me. "To give you one final opportunity to step down before we destroy you."

Arthur laughed, a harsh, grating sound. "You destroy me? I am a Sterling. You are a little girl playing with historical toys."

I did not flinch. I slowly opened the dossier.

"Sarah Jenkins," I said clearly. "Rachel Adams. Chloe Bennett. Maria Lopez. Diana Vance."

Arthur stopped laughing. The color began to drain rapidly from his aristocratic face as I listed the names of the women he had forced into predatory NDAs.

"We have sworn, corroborated affidavits from all five women detailing your massive, ongoing real estate fraud," I continued, sliding the copies across the desk. "We also have the digital footprint proving you ordered a cyberattack against this foundation. That is a federal crime."

Arthur gripped the edge of my desk, his knuckles turning white. "Those NDAs are ironclad. No judge will ever admit those affidavits."

"They will," I countered smoothly, leaning forward. "Because we are establishing a continuous, systemic pattern of criminal racketeering spanning over a century. We cracked the cipher at the back of the Obsidian Ledger, Arthur."

His eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated terror.

"We know about the original, coerced deeds hidden in the subterranean vault of the Sterling Trust building," I whispered, delivering the lethal blow. "We have already submitted the cipher translation to the District Attorney to secure a federal search warrant for that vault."

I was bluffing about the warrant, but Arthur’s profound arrogance made him entirely blind to it. He believed his ancestors' sins were perfectly hidden. Hearing them spoken aloud completely broke his composure.

"You... you have no idea what you are doing," Arthur stammered, stepping backward, the illusion of his untouchable power completely shattered.

"I know exactly what I am doing," I said, standing up, my voice ringing with righteous fury. "You thought you could silence vulnerable women forever. You thought your money made you a god. But your empire falls tomorrow, Arthur. Get out of my office."
