Chapter 36 - The Whistleblower

|

Arthur Sterling’s panicked exit from my office triggered exactly the chain reaction we had meticulously planned for.

Late that night, while Elena, Julian, and I were finalizing the press release for the exhibition, my phone rang. It was an unknown, encrypted number.

"Amelia Grant?" a frantic, hushed male voice asked.

"Speaking," I answered, putting the phone on speaker for Elena and Julian to hear.

"My name is David Thorne," the voice said, trembling violently. "I am the Chief Financial Officer for Sterling Enterprises. Arthur just called an emergency, off-the-books executive meeting. He is frantically ordering the immediate shredding of all recent property acquisition files and demanding we illegally transfer millions into offshore proxy accounts by morning."

Elena’s eyes lit up. The panic I had instilled in Arthur was forcing him to commit blatant, highly documented obstruction of justice in real-time.

"David, if you carry out those orders, you will be going to federal prison alongside him," I warned smoothly, my voice acting as a calm anchor in his storm.

"I know!" David cried softly. "I don't want to do it. I have a family. But he threatened to destroy me. I saw your press conference. I heard what you are doing for Sarah Jenkins. If I give you the internal server access codes to download the fraud evidence right now... can you protect me?"

I looked at Elena, who was already fiercely nodding, opening a secure encrypted laptop.

"David, if you provide the access codes and agree to testify as a protected whistleblower, the Grant-Morris Foundation will provide you with absolute legal immunity protection and immediate physical security," I promised him. "But you have to give us the codes right now, before he destroys the servers."

David took a shuddering breath. "Okay. Ready to copy."

For the next two hours, Elena and our restored IT team ruthlessly downloaded thousands of highly classified, internal Sterling Enterprise documents, wire transfer receipts, and the blatantly illegal property acquisition strategies.

Arthur Sterling thought he was furiously burning down his paper trail, entirely unaware that his own panicked CFO was handing the entire, unredacted map directly to the women he had spent his life trying to silence.
